CookerBooker Privacy Policy
This privacy policy describes how CookerBooker handles information when you use the app. CookerBooker is an offline app for keeping recipes, planning meals and building a shopping list.
Summary
CookerBooker does not create user accounts and does not include advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. The app works fully offline. It does not request the internet permission and makes no network connections, so there is nothing to send. Your recipes, the photos you add, your cookbooks, meal plans, shopping lists and cooking notes are stored only on your device.
Information stored on your device
CookerBooker stores the following locally on your device:
- The recipes you add or import: their content (title, ingredients, steps, tags, prep and cook times, servings and any suitable age)
- Any recipe photos you add, copied into the app's private storage
- Your cookbooks, weekly meal plans, shopping lists and cooking journal (ratings and notes)
- App preferences, such as the theme (light/dark), language and timer settings
This information stays on your device. It is not sent to the app publisher or anyone else.
Photos
If you add a photo to a recipe, you either pick it through the Android photo picker or take one with your camera. CookerBooker copies the image into its own private storage so it can be shown with the recipe and included when you export. Photos are processed on your device and are never uploaded. The app does not request access to your whole photo library, and taking a photo uses your camera app rather than a camera permission.
Cook timers and notifications
CookerBooker can run step timers while you cook. To alert you when a timer is up, it may ask permission to post notifications and run a short-lived foreground service that keeps the timers counting while the app is in the background. This all happens on your device. If you prefer, you can turn off in-app timers in Settings and use your phone's clock app instead, and you can decline the notification permission.
Exporting and sharing
Exporting a .cookerbooker backup file, or sharing a recipe or shopping list as
text, are actions you start yourself. The resulting file or text is written to storage you choose
or handed to Android's share dialog, which you control. CookerBooker does not upload your data
anywhere, and moving your recipes to another device is done by exporting a file and importing it
there.
No network access
CookerBooker does not request the internet permission and does not make network connections. A couple of links on the Settings screen (to this website and to recipe and photo credits) open your browser, which is outside the app.
No data collection
The app does not collect, transmit or share any personal data. It contains no advertising, analytics or tracking libraries.
Permissions
CookerBooker requests one optional runtime permission: notifications, used only to alert you when a cook timer finishes. Picking a photo uses the Android photo picker, taking a photo uses your camera app, and saving or opening files uses the system file picker, none of which requires a permission.
Device backup
CookerBooker uses Android's standard app backup. If you have backup turned on for your device,
the Android system may include the app's data in your device's encrypted backup to your own
Google account. This is a feature of Android that you control in your device settings; the app
publisher has no access to those backups. To keep or move your data yourself, use the app's
built-in export to a .cookerbooker file.
Children
CookerBooker is suitable for a general audience and does not knowingly collect data from children. It collects no data at all. It includes recipes intended for feeding toddlers, but these are ordinary cooking content, not services directed at children.
Data deletion
Uninstalling CookerBooker removes its data from your device. You can also clear the app's data from Android system settings, which deletes your recipes, photos, plans, lists and notes.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the app changes. The updated version will be published at this same address.
